The election was held on the first of August. Great enthusiasm was excited among the friends of Mr Greeley by the returns from the eastern part of the State, which were received several days in advance of those from the western and mountain counties, and were adverse to the Republicans. Browne, a popular Republican, and his election was anticipated, if not conceded.
